Burkhard Schnepel is Professor of Social Anthropology at the Institute for Social Anthropology and Director of the Centre of Interdisciplinary Area Studies, both at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany. Since 2013 he is also Head of the Max Planck Fellow Group entitled “Connectivity in Motion – Port Cities of the Indian Ocean”.
