Abstract:

This seminar explores how drone surveys, GIS mapping, and digital property technologies are reshaping the making of land and property on India’s urban frontier. Drawing on ethnographic research, Thomas Cowan examines how new regimes of high-resolution data transform customary land into legible property – while also raising questions about enclosure, territorial control, and the power to determine what can be seen, mapped, and owned.
