What can philosophers contribute to thinking of Buddhism in a connected world? Of the many possible contributions, first we will take up the very idea of a world, drawing on a late medieval debate in Indian philosophy involving philosophical aliens. Then we will track the traces of a connected world in late antiquity, from the Mediterranean to South Asia and beyond, all with the help of creatures featured in ancient thought experiments, some easy to place, others less so.
